I use the simple note entry all of the time and then I create midi files from finale to use on other items. My problem is every time I enter in a note using the simple entry, the velocity automatically enters in for those notes at 64 (when I check them with the MIDI tool). Even if I place an expression at the beginning of the tune (ffff = 127 velocity) it still shows the notes as 64 velocity.

Is there a way to either set up a blank file or template in which I can enter notes automatically at 127 velocity?

Or, is there a way to globally (or by selection of measures) change all velocities to 127? I hope that this is possible. Please advise and thank you.

If you are using Garritan sounds, the sustaining instruments do not use velocity for volume.

You can set a base velocity/volume in the Score Manager although you may have to Customize the window to add Mix, which will show Volume and Panning settings.

Okay, let me give you a visual. Here are notes I just entered in using the simple entry. Notice after I open up the MIDI tool, they come in at 64:

In order for me to have these at 127, I would have to click on every note individually to change the velocity which is not a cool thing when I have 16th or 32nd notes. The previous post I think is addressing something different than what I am asking. When I would export these three notes in a MIDI file, the velocity in the MIDI file is 64 when I need it to be 127.  So after reading this, please review my previous inquiry and let me know if there is a way using the simple entry to enter these at automatically at velocity 127 - not 64. Thank you again.

Gaster Firrie,

What are your settings in the window Playback Controls?

When you click to expand the Playback Controls window, you get the option of setting a “Base Key Velocity”.

The default value is 64.

That worked! I have had PrintMusic all these years, so when I upgraded to Finale, I am still trying to find all of these things. Thanks again for all of your assistance.
