Okay, so I know that there are third party font packs that are available. However, I am not talking about music fonts. I am trying to get more cursive script fonts onto my version of Finale. How do I install this? Where would I buy it from? My second issue is every time I try to play my music from the midi playback, there is no sound. How can this be fixed because I want to be able to hear my pieces with reverb. I already know how to get to the reverb & the mixer. I'm just having a problem with the playback.

Bethany,

I think we need a little more info about your MIDI sound problem. Can you show us an image of your Score Manager setup so we can read how  you have the instruments assigned?

Presumably other programs produce sounds with your computer setup:

  1. it would help to know what kind of computer you are using,
  2. what OS,
  3. what sound card or the like you are using (if you know)
  4. (Knowing your version of Finale would also help.)
  5. I'd also check the MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup to see what driver you are using. I have had best luck with DirectSound (on Windows).

Sorry to overload you with so many questions, but one of your answers may provide the key, and I don't know which one.

Any text foont available to all applications will normally be available to Finale. If the font is bundled with an app, it may be available to that app only. With most such fonts, there are ways to find and reinstall them so that all applications can use them. It’s been too many years since I did Windows support for me to get into that but others here can (the Mac is my area of expertise regarding fonts).

If using such fonts for your own use only, whatever works, works. If sharing files you run the risk that other users will not have the same fonts. Besides substitution, it can affect spacing and readability. In addition, if preparing files for singers, readability must be taken into account—the smaller the font size, the bigger the issue.

Your Music, your art etc. but, when others are involved, these considerations must be made. There’s a local arranger whose Finale charts I sometimes sight read. If I ever meet him/her, we gonna have a talk about the lyric font being used. Just sayin’...
