Windows 10 Finale 2014.5

When repitching (with the repitch tool) notes with ties, why do the ties disappear?

In nearly 100% of cases I also want to repitch the tied note to the new note as well (Tied notes are the Same Note! If they're not, it is a slur) both notes should change to the new pitch and the tie should remain.

but instead it erases the tie, I have to repitch both notes, then add the tie back in. An annoying waste of time.

Also is there a shortcut to turn on the repitch tool? Or do I always have to mouse over to it to turn it on?

Thanks,

Jeff

I feel the same about the repitch tool the cuts the tie.

If you start repitch before the tie and proceed note-to-note changing pitch with a MIDI keyboard, the ties persist. Otherwise you have to hit T after manually repitching the first note of a tied pair.

We are talking about simple step input.

The repitch tool (which I use a lot) doesn't break the tie for me, using Simple Entry on the QWERTY keyboard. In fact, I can't make it break the tie.

Yes, you have to reenter the note. Big deal. The only tricky part is that, if there is an accidental on the tied note, and it goes over a barline, you have to reenter that, as well. And it doesn't show, so you have to be aware. Since I listen while I do this, it's pretty obvious. Another single key tap.

Are we talking the same Finale? By me the tie goes away when I use the mouse. I don't remember when I use the keyboard I'll have to try and see how it behaves by me.

Nachmen,

Are you in the States? If you are, we can talk on the phone. I’m at two zero six, 523-nine six two eight, in Seattle.

When repitching several notes, try using the arrow keys rather than the mouse to move from note to note.

Adrian, that’s true if the notes are separated. If they are contiguous, changing a note automatically sets the caret to change the next one. Your only concern would be the vertical distance; less or more than a fourth.

Lets look at the broader issue when using the repitch tool it is only to repitch. So whatever method I'm using it needs to repitch and nothing more. That's why I feel with Jeff Nowmos. My way of working is with the mouse why should a repitch option cut a tie, this not the intended purpose.

The irony of your complain is that, whereas Finale considers each of the tied pair a separate entity, Dorico considers tied notes as one entity--and some of their users complain about the various implications of that.

No matter what Finale developers decide to do, some will likely disapprove. Perhaps they will see fit to take your advice and change the program for mouse input. Until then, one will need to adapt to the program and type the T key after repitching the first note of a tie before moving on to change the next note.

@Mike R,

Just tried QWERTY entry of pitches in Simple Entry on my PC, not something I ever do; and you (of course) are right. So only mouse input deletes the tie. Interesting to note.

And I just tried Repitch using the mouse, not something I ever do, either. And I can see how dropping the tie can be annoying, although it's easy enough (as Adrian points out) to put it back in, just by tapping the T key after changing the note.

But consider the case of one part needing the tie, but another doesn't. It seems to me that whether the tie should break is a tossup.
