I am trying to change some of the default settings for the dim7 chords supplied. As far as I can see (Finale 14.5 on Mac Sierra), over half are not what a "normal' guitarist would choose as the easiest option. None of them are wrong, but why would you choose a fretboard 9 or 11 position when all of your others are up near the neck?

I am happy editing the chords, or adding another option for the chord (all the dim7 chords only have one option, about 1/3 are the "common" format taught by every guitar book I've seen.) However, I would like to make these available whenever I use them. Is this possible, or do I have to correct them and save them in each of the default templates I have already set up? Can be done, but a pain in the butt!

Thanks

peter

No need to edit and save each and every suffix in each and every template.

1) Edit and save your custom suffixes (once only).

2) Save your custom chord suffixes as a library:

File menu > Save Library…

In your templates, delete the chord suffixes that are already there.

Then load your library with your custom suffixes:

File menu > Load Library…

Save therm as a Library. When you open your new doc or template, you can load that library.

Mike, This is what I have done:

1. Opened a new default finale document.

2. Starting at C, proceeding to C#, etc all the way to B, added a chord (ie Cdim7, etc), then showed the fretboards

3. For each fretboard that I wanted a simpler fretboard, I right-clicked on it, bringing up the chord definition window.

4. From that window, chose edit, put in the fingering I wished, pressed OK to accept that version, then OK again to close the chord definition window.

5. Continued for all chords - only did the sharps, because when I went back and tested, the enharmonic forms seemed to be now OK too.

6. Went to save Libraries, saved Chords and fretboards - when asked for a name called it Dim7fretboards so it would not change anything normal.

7. Closed the default document without saving it. Opened one of my templates. Loaded the Dim7fretboards library. Entered a dim7 chord and turned on show fretboards

No help, the original finale version of the dim7 appeared. Went to the fretboard editor again, this time chose select, and found that "my" version appears to have been added (as an additional chord, down the order.) So I tried putting it up the order as the first choice, saved that, and the fretboard corrected on the document.

Saved that as my library, overwritting my original work. closed document, opened another, loaded newly modified library, still no help, same problem. Tried deleting the Finale fretboard for that chord, resaving & reloading.

The only thing that I have been able to do which remembers my version appears to be to load a new document without libraries, then load my Dim7fretboard library. The fretboards come out my way, but it's worse than useless because every thing else is lost!

The only thing I can think of would be if I should be overwriting an existing library rather than calling it my own name. I could not see anything that seemed appropriate - the nearest was fretboard styles, but there was a styles subsection in the fretboard editor, so that did not seem likely.

BTW, this is the second time I have asked for help recently, and in both cases, the email link of the first person who replies takes me to the relevant thread page, but their comments do not appear. In this particular case, Peter Thomsen also replied (thank you Peter), and I have the text in the email, but cannot see it on this page so far. Last time, the opposite happened - you replied first and I could not see your post, although I think it appeared when a few others replied, possibly when you gave further hints. Not sure what is going on there. Also, can you advise what  the arrows next to the comments with a number in between are for - I'm guessing they are to indicate if something helped or not, fiddled with my own last time when I couldn't seem to change it back!

Thanks for all your help
