Mac OSX High Sierra, Finale 25.05xxx     I am able to play into garageband with my keyboard. In Finale, I have selected  " Enter notes with midi instrument"  turned ON.  I have tried the speedy entry tool but instead of pressing 4 and entering notes on keyboard, eg it just enters rests. My music plays through the computer from my keyboard, so that is connected.  My Roland D-50 is not seen as a keyboard in Midi setup. Instead I see 2 software devices: 

I have turned my keyboard off and on. It is rather old, so it may not be recognized by Finale, but Garageband does see it. IT does appear in my Audio Midi controller. 

Any ideas?

Take a look in the Speedy menu.

 

Is the menu item “Use MIDI Device for Input” selected or de-selected?

Yes the use midi device for input is ON

What happens when you check the box for Auto Detect Input Devices?

thank you !   That worked.   I am not sure what had happened because I had had that checked on before.  Must have been when fooling around and trying to fix it that I turned it off.
