Entering tablature into finale 25 is infuriating. Does anyone know of a 3rd party fretboard entry tool that can be used similar to Notion or Avids fretboard tool?

(At this time finale has no plan to include this handy feature in future updates. Also they aren’t allowed to recommend 3rd party products.)

Thanks

Hmmmm... for many years, I used Finale alone for TAB because everything else is worse.

What do you find so infuriating?

Does entering TAB in Notion let you export/import into Finale via MusicXML?

Let me just say I tabbed and published an entire collection on finger style guitar arrangements with finale guitar about 10 years ago. I found it faster than finale 25. Having to hit control before entering the fret number slows the process a great deal. Control 8 is buggy (and I know it’s not my keyboard) and clicking to enter a string of of eighth notes is slow as well. If I click too fast the software just doesn’t keep up. Maybe it’s my new iMac. But I doubt it.
In any case I’m sure one could export from Notion or another tab program but only if you buy them, extra $$$. (That functionality is not available on the demos). And if I’m going to buy a different program there’s no need for finale. I already bought finale.
I tried to see if a demo version Notions fretboard entry would send its midi data to finale but I had no luck. This is why I’m asking if there is a stand alone midi guitar fretboard software out there that can be used to enter the fret number into finale. ??

I'm all about using the tools that work. If I have to pay the $79 crossgrade because Notion does something that takes more time or can't be done in Finale, I do it. In any case, the idea that having to pay for tools that do what I need is somehow a bad thing is lost on me—just not interested in that argument.

I seem to remember that I could export from Notion via MusicXML during the demo period. I would not attempt to export tab via MIDI and expect it to work.

No two notation apps handle .xml files the same—especially when it comes to tab. I took a file I'd created in Finale and opened it in Finale 25, MuseScore, Notion 6 and Overture. I did not create a tab in Notion to see how it looks in Finale—you're on your own if you want to check it out.

Thanks for the reply.  Sorry if I seemed argumentative.  I'm not opposed to buying this functionality or the tools that work. I'm hoping I can stick with Finale since I already have it.

Export from Notion via MusicXML during the demo period isn't available.

The question remains---Does anyone know of a 3rd party fretboard entry tool (that will work in Finale) that can be used similar to Notion or Avids fretboard tool?
