Running Windows 10 home on PC, my Finale SongWriter 2010 suddenly started giving an error when i try to open any existing file. The error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

Debug Error!

Program: ...gram Files (x86)\Finale SongWriter 2010\FinaleSongWriter.exe

abnormal program termination

(Press Retry to debug the application)

But the program crashes when I "retry". I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled with a fresh download from the FinaleMusic site, am still getting the same error message. The program opens fine, and appears to be able to create new files. But I'm also getting other error messages like "invalid parameter" when i try to open files inside. It is behaving very badly. Please advise, I have customers waiting on me.

Finale 25 has had updates to deal with various issues in Windows 10. Some of them were caused by the auto-updates that Microsoft releases. The idea that a recent Windows update has caused a major problem in a nearly nine year old app is quite likely.

 

It is quite possible that updating to 25 is your least time consuming choice.
