I see that Note Performer for Finale was announced today. It previously was only available for Sibelius. In that version, note performer improved Sibelius' playback drastically. I don't know how well it works in Finale, but it does include an extensive sample library, And the audio demos sound good to me.

IMO, the more choices there are, is good for the users.

I know this has been popular with Sibelius users and that more than a few Dorico users have been clamoring for it; so having it as an option for Finale sounds like a plus.

I got the notice, too. Don't know anything about it but I am curious.

As you have probably noticed, there is a 30-day trial version.

Has any one used it? That can give a review about note performer if it is necessary ( or gives added value )for finale user?

Is note performer a substitute for the Garritan library? Or is it an engine? I'm out of the loop. I need some explaining if anyone can explain it to me. Thank you in advance.

First, note that NotePerformer 3 for Finale is a beta version. So think of it as a first step not integrated with all of Finale's expressions.

Second, note that because NotePerformer "looks ahead" to craft its performance, there is a one-second delay in playback. This means the green playback cursor will be ahead of the performance; but perhaps more important, it means one cannot combine NotePerformer with Garritan or other sounds because they will not be synchronized.

I have tried NotePerformer on copies of a couple of my Finale files and it gives pretty good results, but because I have been using Finale HP with Garritan and other VST's for so long, I would almost certainly not use NotePerformer to produce demo sound files (yet).

On the other hand, I find using NotePerformer with Dorico is a step up from the HALion sounds that come with the program.

@J.A. Verkouteren thanks for the explanation. I think I will stay with my Finale-Garritan in the mean while.
