Greetings.  I'm having problems deleting text after a file has been saved.

Also can time signature be edited after the fact?

Thanks. R

… I'm having problems deleting text after a file has been saved …

Generally you can delete an item if you are in the tool, that created it.

If you do not know, in what tool the item belongs, use the Selection Tool, and double-click the item.

Finale will switch to the tool that created the item, with the item selected (so that you can delete it).

… can time signature be edited after the fact? …

Yes.

Use the Time Signature Tool, and double-click the measure.

You get to the dialog box Time Signature which can be expanded (click the button “More Options”), to show options for displaying another time signature than the “real” time signature.

Also, take a look at the dialog boxes Measure Attributes (Measure Tool, double-click the measure) and Staff Attributes (Staff Tool, double-click the staff).

Thank you Peter for your advice. btw - when I asked about time signature I really meant the temp indication and tempo description above the music on the upper left.

btw - regarding the issue about text I had tried every tool available to be able to cut the text in the music file but was unable to. The only thing it allows me to do is create a new text box to enter text.

The tempo mark is an expression.

Switch to the Expression Tool (icon: mf), and a handle appears on the tempo mark.

Context-click the handle.

In the context menu, choose “Edit Text Expression Definition…”.

It sounds like you mean items such as Title, Subtitle, Composer, Arranger, Lyricist &c. - right?

Look here:

Window menu > ScoreManager > File Info

The items in File Info (= Title, Subtitle, Composer &c.) can be inserted into a text block:

(Text Tool)

Text menu > Inserts > …

To remove a text block, drag-select the text block’s handle, and hit the delete key.

Hi.   I'm referring to text where words to a song would go.

The text that goes under the music.  Usually I dont have problems removing it but for some reason I cant get rid of the words to the song.

sigh..Thanks. R

I think it might be that my software is corrupt.  There are strange inconsistencies.

Not sure. R

The "Lyrics Tool" is the icon with the quill and ink, next to the text tool icon (the T).

You can get rid of lyrics a couple of ways. If you want to remove the lyrics completely from the file, select the Lyrics Tool and open the "Lyrics WIndow" from the Lyrics Menu. Then, delete all of the lyrics in all verses, sections, and choruses where applicable.

Another way to just clear the lyrics from the staff is to select the region, "right-click" (not sure what the MAC input is) and choose "Clear Selected Items." Choose only "Text" (which should include lyrics and text blocks) The lyrics still exist in the file, but they do not appear in the music.

Not sure about the other issue you are having with the Articulation Tool.
