Hi,

I recently purchased SSPro and as several of our forum experts have testified, once I spent a little time with the quick reference guide, I found the recognition pretty good and error correcting quick, especially with the dual windows showing the original on top and the scanned version below.   My question now for you SSP expert users is how to get Finale to recognize the part imported as a transposed one.   I'm so used to importing a TIF file into Finale, and specifying the instrument so Finale knows the concert vs transposed key.   Now, after setting the playback instrument in SSP to, say Alto sax Eb, and exporting as XML into Finale, Finale doesn't see it as an Eb part.  In the Score Manager it may say Alto, but it also says "no transposition", so they key you see on the part has been recognized as the concert key.    I searched through the SSP manual, but couldn't find an answer.   I can see this will be a big problem if I try to scan and export a multi horn score into Finale!  I did try indicating the transposition in SSP (far right column in Playback console) but that didn't seem to make any difference.   Nor did changing the instrument to a C instrument -- nothing happened in terms of the key in the recognized part changing.    There must be something I'm overlooking!

Thanks!

Liz Fitzgerald

Hello,

it seems quit complicate, hardware scanner, software TWAIN and WIA, is it handy in using? and the price 399.95EUR is too expensive.

Mike Rosen will likely be along before too long and can share his expertise using SSPro, but my first question is whether you are importing the SSPro file into a blank Finale doc or into one already set up with your intended instruments.

Personally, I bring it into a new Finale doc, and then change the instruments as needed. But I'm sure that presetting the receiving score is a better idea!

To Shing-Kwei: It's not an easy piece of software to use. You have to spend some time learning how to use it. But for my purposes, it's well worth the money. If you own Finale, you can get SmartScore Pro for half price. It's still a lot of money, but it can save a lot of time. The scanning is the easy part. The instructions make it sound a lot more complicated than it is.

You can buy it through the MakeMusic Store for $199 when logged into your account. As a Finale owner, you can get the same price from Musitek.

It is not complicated but the instructions are way outdated (at least for the Mac). I don’t know how to use it over Windows but TWAIN hasn’t been supported on the Mac since OS 10.5. Unfortunately, the instructions talk about that first. Also, all that nonsense about HP and all-in-one scanners can be ignored—none of that has been correct for years.

On the Mac, you can’t scan directly from within SmartScore since OS 10.5 (or the kludge with 10.6). In the directions, skip down to the part where it talks about using Image Capture.app and use that to scan in the document. It’s part of the Mac OS and has worked properly since OS 10.8.2. Open that scan with SmartScore X2 Pro and you’re good to go.

You can (and should) edit your scan in SSX2P. Save it as enf or MusicXML. This is the file that you will import into Finale.

Thanks Mike Rosen, thanks Mike Halloran encourage me to purchase a SmartScorePro.

I have an old Epson Perfection 2480 scanner, but it doesn't compatible with Mac Pro ( OS 10.13.1), another Epson WF 2541  3-in-one is for Windows only. my manuscript ( quite clear ref. attachment) ) is a oversize of A4, if I ask Copy Corner scans in a .pdf or .tiff of B3 size can I use SSP continually, what are the next steps?

by the way I am glad to get touch with Mike Rosen again, since 2 years ago the Finale Forum was shut down.

Thanks again!

Shing-kwei, that looks like a handwritten score. If that's the case, SmartSCore may have some problems with recognition.

(I ran Adriano's post through an online translator)

>I used smartscore pro for many years and like all programs of this type, if the resolution is not exactly 300 dpi, it does not recognize the score well. Considering the time needed to correct all the errors, I suggest to write it by hand at the end.<

Before the current X2 Pro, there was SmartScore Pro—it was a stickler on 300dpi as I recall. I found it to be ok but X2 to be much better.
