I would like the "Mi" to be just an "M" and still maintain the jazzcord font :Em7(b5) and Gm6/9.

Windows 10 / Finale 25

Thanks

I suppose that you are familiar with the Chord Suffix Editor, right?

As you probably have noticed, in the JazzCord suffixes each chord suffix is a single character.

Example:

The suffix mi7(b5) is a single character (not 7 individual characters).

This is unique for the JazzCord suffixes.

All the other chord suffix fonts (like e. g. the JazzText font) have only the individual characters which means that you have to create chord suffixes by combining the individual characters.

In the JazzText chord suffix library the suffix mi7(b5) is composed of its individual characters:

m i 7 ( b 5 )

Among the JazzCord characters you do not get m7(b5) as a single character.

Instead you can create the suffix by combining two different characters from the JazzCord font:

m (= character #109) - move it vertically up by 3pt

7(b5) (= character #153)

Similarly you have to create the suffix m6/9 by combining two characters:

m (= character #109) - move it vertically up by 3pt

6/9 (= character #72)

NB:

When you in the Chord Suffix Editor click the button “Next” to add the next character, Finale will automatically set the font to the document’s default chord suffix font which may not be JazzCord 18, but rather JazzText 14.

You can change the font in the Chord Suffix Editor, and the change will apply to that particular item in the suffix.

Or you can go to the Document Options, and change the default suffix font to JazzCord 18.

I'm having trouble getting my Chord Suffix FONT changes to "stick."

  • It displays as JazzCord or JazzText (and maybe I need to understand which one is better) but it reverts back to Times New Roman when I hit "OK."
  • I've tried to change it in Document Options under Font. Set Font JazzCord.
  • I've gone to the Chord Tool and played with Select ALL FONTS and Replace with JazzCord, etc.  I hit OK.  Never seems to work.
  • Tech support has not been very helpful here.
  • I have V. 27 although the doc I'm working in was created in a much older version but I thought I imported it into v. 27.  Could that be the problem????  THANK YOU!
