If I accidentally assigned lyric syllables to notes, is there a way to later "unassign" them without deleting the notes? (Windows 10 with Finale 2014.5)

Select the lyric by double-clicking on the lyric. You can then delete it. But that also deletes it from the lyric window.

If you simply put it on the wrong syllable, and want to keep it for reassignment, select the region, and right-click > Clear Selected Items... and choose lyrics.

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. I was copying an existing piece of music so I could make alterations to the ending and discovered into the process that I had inadvertently omitted an entire measure of music. I was working music and lyrics at the same time to help me keep my place. By the time I had noticed I had gone several more measures. I ended up just undoing everything back to the lyric assignment but boy would it have been easier to just select the lyrics, and delete the connection, rather than the lyric itself. Maybe in a future update.

Thanks, Rob

No need for an update. It works fine, just as it is. It sounds like you aren’t fully aware of how it works. Once you have the theory, the practice is easy.

You could have cleared the lyrics using Clear Selected Items under the Edit menu. This would have removed the lyrics from the score but not from the lyrics window.

Thanks, Vaughan, that's just what I was looking for.
