Windows / Finale v25

Hopefully someone can find a solution to the fact that Finale counts a one note pick up as 1 full measure!   I'm transcribing orchestra parts from manuscript into Finale,  and the corresponding choral scores (already typeset) start the 1st full measure as ms. 1....not the one note pick up!     At this point, my Finale orchestra parts will be 1 measure off from the corresponding choral scores!   This will be very problematic when rehearsals start!    Couldn't there be some option to include the pick up in the playback, and have the 1st full measure be ms. 1?  Creating a pick-up is already designated in the Set Up Wizard.   Couldn't there be a link from the pick-up designation in the Set-Up Wizard to the playback?  Thanks!

Select the pickup measure

Right-click > Edit Measure Attributes

In the next screen, Uncheck > Include in measure numbering

Two different things. To see the measure numbers in the score, select the score, choose the measure tool, and from the Measure menu choose Show Measure Numbers.

You can set the number bar to show the score numbers. Check your help files to see how.

In Preferences you can select either Show Actual Measure Numbers or Show Defined Measure Numbers. If you’ve deselected certain measures so as not to be included in measure numbering (like your upbeat) or if you have different measure numberng regions, selecting the latter preference will allow you to see the measure numbers as they’re defined in the score.

BTW, I’d advise against using Finale’s upbeat measure function. It creates problems! Most of us define the time signature to be exactly as long as the upbeat but to show as the basic time signature of the piece. You then deselect Include in Measure Numbering in Measure Attributes.

Indeed.

One of the problems is playback: the pickup measure is played back as a full measure.

It should be added that the function Pickup Measure is a very old function that uses Placeholders from the (now obsolete and removed) Mirror Tool.

Agreed, as well. The only time I use the pickup measure feature is a quick-and-dirty lead sheet.
