You don't say what sample libraries you are using. If it's the Garritan Instruments for Finale, then you're right—you can't use them in your DAW.

You can export the MIDI to your DAW and reassign other samples there (Kontakt, SampleTank etc.). You can also call up most VST libraries into Finale through their respective players.

Another option is that Finale 25 can use Rewire to synchronize with your DAW. 

Hi, Let me make this more clear: I want to export the lines I create in MIDI file format to my DAW- samplitude, where I would like to assign samples such as Big Fish Audio's Vintage Horns 2 or Miroslav Orchestral instruments.What I'm after is a raw, plain midi file which I'd export and then assign samples and articulations in my DAW.

A follow up to my last entry: I tried exporting midi files to may DAW as I covered above. They showed up fine in my tracks but, when I loaded a particular sample onto the track, it gave no sound.

Normally one has to link the MIDI track to the specific softSynth (VST) track in your DAW for the MIDI to drive your DAW sounds. I had no problems once I learned how to do this in SONAR. Now I have to learn to do it in Cubase (but not until I need it for a project).

Be careful about letting Finale's HP export keyswitches with the rest of MIDI data unless you plan to use the same (Garritan) samples in your DAW. One thing I have done is to create a Garritan Ensemble of the sounds I use in Finale and then to open the Aria ensemble in my DAW and re-link the sounds to the appropriate MIDI track.

(I should add that I am using the Garritan Libraries I purchased rather than the GIfF Garritan sounds included free with Finale.)

Thanks. I'm not sure how to link the MIDI line to the sample once I've imported it into my DAW. I usually work right in my DAW and play/record the MIDI part right onto the track. What I usually do is turn on a specific sample program such as Miroslav Philharmonik, or something from VSL library via Kontakt, and then the sample makes sound and records as I play. I wanted to try writing something in Finale and importing the MIDI part into a track in my DAW.Maybe J Adrian could explain how he does it in Sonar and I can try a similar application of this data in Samplitude.

Unfortunately, there's no one answer for all DAWs. I know that Miroslav Philharmonik uses the SampleTank engine but using it in Digital Performer is quite a bit different than Logic or Finale (the three apps in which I might use it). I have no idea what you do in your DAW.

And as mentioned above, Finale will only embed midi information for which it is programmed. If you load other samples to the finale midi file in sampletank, you'll most likely have to edit the midi cc information which your libraries use. Also, any keyswitches which finale assigned will have to be re-assigned to match what your library uses.

Many DAWs now support MusicXML import. Samplitude appears to support export only. From https://www.musicxml.com/software 

Samplitude is a Windows-based audio and MIDI recording and editing application from MAGIX AG. Version 9.1 added export of Samplitude scores to MusicXML format.

Import is one of those things you may wish to put into their suggestion box. It's a nice feature and allows for more control than a MIDI import.
