Hi, I'm getting some strange results and there's one percussion instrument I cannot find. I create a New finale file, using Setup Wizard with 7 drum instruments.

1. Clicking into ScoreManager, I change one drumset, to percussion, and select World percussion. I then go to Simple Note Entry, and Finale makes no sound, no matter what note I use. Meanwhile, In the very next staff, Drumset->Standard is making all drum set notes/sounds.

2. In, New File, Setup Wizard, select Percussion, Chinese Gongs, click ADD. I cannot get any combination of settings to make this instrument make sound. I'm not trying to do anything but just click on the staff to hear a note or Chinese gong.

3. I cannot seem to find what drum instruments have the Hand Clap? I thought it was Percussion, Standard, but this only has notes,Crash Cymbal Choke Flat all the way to Crash Cymbal 2, with handclap no where in between.

 Windows 10, Finalev25

What's strange is I opened a previous file where I do use Hand Claps, but ScoreManager says it's mapped to Piano.

In my mind, I'm doing the most simple thing. Starting from scratch, Setup Wizard. Note Entry and no sound. I looked in this community for handclap: I'm not trying to change in mid measure. I'm not using JABB.....etc.I've looked at the midi mappings, but Handclap being associated with a number ....goes over my head. It could be something very stupid on my part.

I'm mostly concerned with why changing from Standard to World Percussion goes from SOUND to NO sound.

I'm playing Finale through VST. VST Banks and Effects menu is set to full volume.

I have screen shots. Will try and post after I submit. Thank you. I really like all the percussion sounds and being able to use SmartMusic and Garriton at the same time.

I can’t be much help, since I rarely use percussion, and never do anything complicated. I do know that in the past, not all of the sounds that appear in the lists actually had sound files associated with them.

I have been told that percussion mapping has been greatly simplified, but I don’t know if that had any effect on playback.

Finale traditionally has a problem matching its percussion sounds with its percussion maps with its percussion layouts. In spite of many years requests they have not developed a way for users to match maps to sound sets, a prerequisite to making layouts useful.

You will need to do considerable investigation to find the matches you need. You should probably try using the "Submit a request" link to see if Finale support would give you a hand making heads or tails out of this perpetual mash-up.

good news, I have pinned down Chinese Gongs, or perhaps, I have remembered what setting I had when I stumbled upon it.

Score Manager window

set Chinese Gongs, DEvice column, to SmartMusic Soft Synth

set Orchestra as the Sound column, or it probably is already default to this from previous step.

I think Chinese Gongs are not in the Garritan sound library. I think SmartMusic is the default when I installed Finale. The reason I am posting is because the Chinese gongs instrument, you probably already know, when played using the SmartSynth, offers another hi-hat sound, it is different, I tested a few, from the other hi-hats, like Garritan Fusion Kit, Garritan Electronic Kit, SmartMusic Standard, just as good but different. Time to celebrate.
