I would like to add a line of jianpu Chinese-style numerical notation to a simple one-staff melody notated in standard notation. Since Finale does not accommodate jianpu (yet), as Sibleius apparently does, does anyone out there have a recommendation on how I should go about doing this? My current thought is to use the Lyrics tool to enter the jianpu information as a lyric below the standard notation.

Many thanks!

Disclaimer:

I am not familiar with jianpu notation.

You could also use the Chord Tool.

As the Chord Style, try Roman, or Nashville.

You type the chord symbols as usual (= typing letters), and the chord root will change to a number as you move to the next chord symbol.

… that is, provided the Chord Tool is not already in use.

Are there chord symbols in the notation?

That is an interesting idea. Thank you.

To answer your question, I think there will be chords in the notation, so I probably can't use your idea in this instance. I also think that the Lyric tool may offer me more flexibility. I could enter several lines of lyrics, one for numbers, one for dots, perhaps one for horizontal lines. I may have to draw in the lines with the Shapes tool.

It's an interesting idea, akin to shape notes, but I would prefer that Finale fix long-standing bugs, before spending time on more features. Although, it would possibly open up a large market.

It seems to be done in Sibelius with a plug in. Might it be possible to use the Finale Numerics (figured bass) to enter what you need?
