I am using Finale 26 on a MacBook Pro running Mojave.

I am interested mostly in using solo instruments to write chamber music at this point. I was wondering if I will find any difference between the solo strings, piano and woodwinds that I have now with the included library, and with what I would see if I added GPO5. I realize that there are many more instruments in the latter, but I am really wondering if I will find that the violin, viola and cello samples sound any different and will respond better to the articulations and expressions in Finale.

IMO, there isn't much of a sound difference. GPO5 offers more choices, but they're all being controlled by the same Human playback parameters. Don't get me wrong, GPO5 is a very useful tool, it just doesn't sound markedly different from the included Garritan sounds to me.

If it’s the same instrument, there is no difference. Think of GIFF as a sampler containing instruments from GPO 5 and other Garrittan libraries.

GPO has additional functionality, however. It can be used in applications other than Finale.

Here’s an article from last year detailing issues with GPO and Finale. I do not know how many have been addressed between the Aria Player and Finale 26.

If I already have GPO, do I NEED to install Garritan Sounds for Finale? Can I point Finale to use the GPO library instead? That would save a bit of space on my streaming drive.
