Oh...once I choose the correct chord suffix and font that I (as in choosing it in the Chord 'Edit Attributes'), then the imported suffix will change.

If I try to re-type the chord symbol in my newly imported XML file, some suffixes won't use my preferred suffix style....(unless I go and manually find it in the 'Edit Attributes'  in box number 297 or whatever)

Some chord suffixes with be correct when I re-type...some won't.

So....is there a way to get the newly imported XML file to immediately behave like an original Finale file and just start interpreting my preferred chord suffix library right from when I re-type some of the suffixes that don't behave in my preffered manner?

Thanks, and here's more detail on exporting/importing xml into Finale (using Mac OSC 10.11.6)

I can probably understand that I'm probably wondering about and asking for the impossible, due to different fonts being used in the different notation programs.

And I can always reset my chord suffixes in Finale after XML import by using the 'Chord Definition/Chord Suffix Selection' and using my preferred chord suffix library.

But...in trying to save hours of extra work, it'd be nice if Finale would recognize the preferred chord font and suffixes immediately after changing the library....maybe it can? I might be doing something in the wrong order? Or missing a step? Or missing something technical that would be beyond the capabilities of XML export/import? (...I'm just a user!...not a full tekkie)

- in Sibelius (19.1.0.1145) I have a file to export to Finale in XML (compressed).

Note: I have tried this export using several different versions of chord fonts in Sibelius to see if any fonts export differently than others

- after exporting a file in XML compressed, I open it up in Finale (25.5.0.259)

No matter which chord symbol font I originally set in Sibelius before the export to XMlL, the font Symbol and Suffix fonts in Finale show up as 'Times New Roman' upon Import. (..even if I try to export a Finale font such as 'Broadway' for the chords in Sibelius, the 'Broadway' font for Chord symbol and suffixes show up a 'Times New Roman')

So, now I go to 'Load Library' (with my preferred fonts and chord fonts) into the Finale file.

I like the Broadway Copyist fonts. After loading the library, the chord symbols (ie: Bb, C, D,...) are now in the B'Way font; and the Suffixes are showing that they have been changed to B'Way Copyist fonts as well.

But, the chord suffixes in the actual chart are still showing up in 'Times New Roman'. If I try to edit and re-type the same chord suffixes, then some of the suffixes will show my preferred B'Way chord setting, but some won't.

I could always re-type the chords and re-choose the chord suffix from the 'Chord suffix box' if I need to. I'm just trying to wrap my head around why my chord suffix library seems to change once in awhile. Like, if I create a new library, does the new library add in the existing chord suffixes, and therefore the chord suffix numbering system changes all the time?

So...just wondering....I mean, I can do the work around, but Finale is so comprehensive that I'm probably missing out on something about how chord library suffixes stay organized due to constant library suffix updating and re-editing to get them how I like them.

- how do 'preferred' suffix spellings actually get used all the time?

- should I move some around to any specific ordering?

- is Finale remembering my most commonly used chord suffixes? (...even after updating and adding to the library?)

Thanks all for time.

Cam,

I can't add anything to your chord suffix issues, but be aware that very often when you import xml files from Sib to Fin, all of the whole rests in the Finale file are "real" rests, not the default rest.  It doesn't make a difference on the score, but when you create parts you'll see that there are no multi-measure rests, just whole rests everywhere.

The fix is to run the plugin "Change to Default rests" on the score before generating parts.

Ahh!...my blunder and misunderstanding....having been away from Finale for a few years, I forgot that when I save a Chord Suffix Library (after making some changes to it) it still might add other pre-existing suffixes from other libraries if I load my user Library into a document that already has a different Library in it.

So, the Chord Suffix Library adds these document library suffixes into my own user Library suffixes if I save them without deleting them....am I correct in this?

Anyways, I'm loving being able to set up things in Finale, and I like that it is becoming second nature to use again after I go through the re-learning curve.
