I bet there are folks using Notion to start there Finale projects. I have found with just a little digging that it is much faster then Finale creating lead sheets and small ensembles .

I have not purchased the Notion handwriting function because I don't know if I need an active stylus or an Apple Pencil or just a cheap stylus?

Would love to know what stylus folks are using and any issues they my be having importing xml files ?

I can’t speak from direct experience with Notion, but I have found the Apple pencil is much more crisp and responsive than a stylus everywhere I use it: ForScore, NotePad, iPocketDraw...

The hard tip makes all the difference in accuracy.

Thanks Mike.

 Thanks Mike.

there seems to be many different types of styluses out there ranging from a few bucks to 150 bucks.  $100-$150 for an Apple Pencil just seems out-of-control crazy to me.  Just like you can now get non-Apple lightning  charging cables I am hoping that there is a stylus out there that is similar.

Yes, Notion for iOS with MusicXML export is pretty good. At $15, it's pretty clear that MakeMusic never has to finish its doomed iOS app that was released in beta years ago. Any time someone asks when the Android version will be released, I think, "Who cares? I own an iPad."

Perhaps but none of the inexpensive alternates do what it does.

We looked at the Logitech Crayon now that it is no longer an EDU exclusive—let's just say it's appropriately named but, at $50, maybe it will be good enough.

These guys have the refurbished 1st Gen Apple pencil for $70

Just for fun, I DLed the handwriting module for Notion ($8.) On my 12” Pro with the 1st gen pencil, I have to say it’s pretty darn slick. It handled eighths, quarters, halfs, all the rests, dots, triplets, slurs, chords, beams... everything I tried. You can also do two layers.

I’m not sure it’s enough to make me go out and buy an iPad and a pencil, but if you already have them, I will certainly give it two thumbs up!

I agree. Now that the 6th gen base model iPad ($329) supports the pencil, the ding isn't that much—before 3/2018, you had to buy the Pro to use the Apple Pencil. I bought that exact combo last year for my college student daughter to take research notes in the field.
