I have PrintMusic 2014. I am wondering if it is possible to split the beats in a measure between two separate lines? I am a church musician and often need to do that.

Not in PrintMusic. You would need the full Finale to do that. Sorry.

Use layers.

Enter the upper line in Layer 1, the lower line in Layer 2.

In the Document Options there are separate settings for each layer.

Take a good look at the layer settings.
