So.....I was away from Finale for a long time, now want to get back into it. I created a document, started entering notes, all's well, but it will not allow me to select anything....even if I manage to select a bar, I can't copy it.....it's very strange to me. I was an experienced user at one time but as I say, it's been years....thus Finale 2007! This is a standard new project, piano and flute.....tried again and again to copy/paste a measure, can't do it.

Can you creat a new document? If not, is the license properly registered?

Is the file locked in read only mode? I forget how that works other than remembering that Read Only is possible.

I go to help and it says "deauthorize Finale?" Meaning it's authorized, I guess. It has the serial number, all of that. Legal copy of course.

Yes, can create new documents. Can setup a new doc, can enter notation.....but other functions don't work, such as cut/paste/copy/etc, other things don't work either......I can open up old charts as well.....I wrote 100s w/Finale over a long period.....they open up just fine, but same restrictions exist: can't do the functions like copy/paste, etc. Weird.....

Any way I could attach a chart so you could look at it?

That allows you to de-authorize on a computer you are no longer using and re-authorize on a different machine. The full version of Finale allows two concurrent authorizations—to use on a third computer, you'd go in and de-authorize one of the others. PrintMusic, Allegro etc. allow only one. That's what I meant by being authorized.

So you can create a new file, enter notes and save but not edit.

You can't attach a file here but you can email one to me  mike @ halloranmusic.com and I can take a look.

Since you are running Windows and I'm on a Mac, I don't know that I'll be able to reproduce your problem but I'll be glad to take a look. I do have a 2007 CD somewhere and a Win7 laptop — if I can find the CD, that may help.

There are other, unofficial forums. This one lets you attach a file once you have been approved to do so (it takes awhile). Many of us regulars also belong to this one. Lots of long-time Finale for Windows users there.
