How to make a musx file playable with Finale 2012. When I try to open the musx file I keep getting an error message.
That isn’t going to work.
but there’s a temporary workaround. Download the demo for 26, save as a 2012 file per the above link and the resulting .mus file will open. This only works for 30 days—after that, you’ll no longer be able to save or export in 26 unless you purchase the upgrade.
This assumes that the .mus file is not locked by its creator . If so, the person who wrote it needs to send you an unlocked 2012 compatible file.
Another way, if swapping files with a 25.4 or 26 user, is to have that person send you a .musicxml file (MusicXML 3.1).
You can import and export MusicXML 3.1 files by downloading and installing the free Dolet 7 plugin from MakeMusic.
