Hello, I am a longtime user of Finale products (owning Finale 2014 for the past 1.5 years and Songwriter for 3 years before that), and yesterday I decided that it was time for me to upgrade to Finale v26. I purchased and installed Finale v26 (rubbing on Windows 10) with no issue, and then I attempted to run the program. It opened fine, and I used the setup wizard to open a new blank score for piano only. When I tried to enter notes, I was dismayed to find that there was no audio playback as I clicked them into the score. I then entered 4 quarter notes in the first bar and tried to then use human playback to listen to them. The green indicator froze on beat one and Finale played no sound, so I pressed the stop button and tried again. This time I received an error message that said “Failed to open tempfile Enigma Error #-2,” and after clicking out of it, Finale’s playback once again stopped on beat one and didn’t make any noise. I tried going into audio setup and checking my configurations, and it appears that I have no device set up as my output device, but whenever I try to select AISO (I’m running Aiso4All v2) the program either crashes or won’t let me select it.

Also a long time FINALE user, I purchased and downloaded Finale 26 not too long ago. Currently working on orchestral score with multiple instruments, however I find that my playback only play sixteen (16) sounds in the output, where my assigned Yamaha keyboard is shown as the sound output. Any sounds beyond the 16 are not available as the program indicates that device  output is "SmartMusic SoftSynth2" What havent I done in my installation in order to get more sounds through my Yamaha keyboard -Portable Grand? Really frustrated, and could use some help on the issue. Tim

If your keyboard is the output device and you have only one MIDI port, you are limited to 16 channels. To get more than that, you need to use a switch box and external sound modules or host the VIs (virtual instruments) in your computer.

Most of us use our MIDI keyboards as input devices only nowadays.
