I am  a school teacher. I just received a new laptop from my district. The laptop they gave us does not have much hard drive space because everyone uses cloud storage such as: google drive and drop box. I need to get Finale on this computer. What can I do? Can it be downloaded to a flash drive or external hard drive? This is driving me crazy because I do a lot of arranging for my classes. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

The system specs. state that a full install of Finale takes up 1 GB of storage, 8 extra GB for the Garritan sounds. Are you saying the laptop doesn't have one GB of free space? I use an external drive, not for Finale specifically, but I don't see why that couldn't be used. If I'm mistake, hopefully someone will correct me.

Yes it only has 117 GB of hard drive space. The problem I found is I created a desktop short cut to Google Drive so that is taking up 68 GB of space. If I could figure out how to get that off then that would free up some other space so that I can download Finale if not I hope the external hard drive or flash drive works. Please help if anyone has any insight. Thanks!

I have no idea what you did so that a shortcut to GoogleDrive takes any space, let alone 68GB. It’s in the cloud and shouldn’t take any space at all. My company uses GoogleDrive for 8 years now—I haven’t a clue here..

Your district’s IT dept. probably needs to get involved. Your ability to anything may depend on your admin privileges — or lack thereof. If you don’t have full privileges, someone who does may need to wipe the drive and reset the laptop to the way it was when they gave it to you and then set up GoogleDrive properly. If you do have full admin, then you may be able to do this on your own. If the network is set up the way many companies and districts are, this can be done remotely by the administrator.

Back to your question, you need the 1GB space for the basic install. The Garritan libraries can be loaded onto an external. You can then tell the Aria Player where to find them. This shouldn’t be an issue once that 68GB partition is gone.

Mac? Windows? What OS?
