Windows 10 - Finale 26

I'm confused :

My Fender Precision bass has 20 frets and a range from 1E - 4D#.

Within Finale 26 I set preferences as this:

1) Why there are negative numbers for frets ? I can't go minus playing on the headstock

Inserts manuale on TAB marks the notes as "Out-of-Range Notes"

These notes are perfect within my bass range (1E - 4D#) ...

Thanks for your time and effort to light up my mind :-)

Some random thoughts:

  1. Does Finale expect your Bass to be an instrument that transposes at the octave?
  2. Did you modify the fret setting when you dragged the notes onto the TAB staff?
  3. Also, how is your Out-Of-Range Notes preference set up? For an expert player or for a beginner?
  4. I'm not sure what you mean by 'Inserts manuale on TAB marks the notes as "Out-of-Range Notes'."

Hi Adrian

First of all, thank you.

My native language is Dutch, but I do my best in writing and understanding the conversation here.

1) I don't realy understand what you mean by this.

2) I don't think I need to change my fretsetting since it's a "normal" 4-string bass guitar with "normal" frets.

3) Beginner, but IMHO my "skills" have nothing to do with whether or not the notes are present on the bass. What does the term "out of range" mean exactly?

4) By example : If I select the 1/8 note in the Simply Entry Pallet and then click on the 4th string in the TAB en enter the number 12 the note is marked "Out of range" but I can perfectly take that note on mij guitar hence it have 20 frets. So, why is de note marked "Out of range

Benny,

Are you entering notes by typing directly on the TAB staff? (I have to admit I always start with the notes and then drag them onto the TAB staff.)

My question about Beginner vs. Experienced is not about your ability. It is a setting in Finale (under the View menu) that affects how Finale colors out-of-range notes. I get the orange (out-of-range) notes on the Beginner or Intermediate setting, but not when I leave the setting as Advanced.

Benny Coomans,

From your description it is not clear whether you are

1) Entering music into the standard staff, and then copying to the TAB staff,

or

2) Entering music into the TAB staff, and then copying to the standard staff.

Anyway, take a look in Preferences - Edit.

Is the option

Respect Instrument Ranges when Copying or Changing Instruments

selected or de-selected?
