EDIT: Solved. There was a setting in the grouping and the way they behave when they are hidden.

Hi. I've exhausted every option on past posts, so I created my own post. I can't get Finale to hide empty staves. The feature works up until a certain page in the music and then not at all for the rest of the piece. I've tried everything I can think of: Adding new staves and replacing the old ones, destroying brackets/groups, checking parts for settings, checking for any notes or directives, etc. The measures collapse properly if I shift them to a different page, then reappear if I move them back. I've been at it for hours and frustrated to no end.

Is it possible that there is something like a real whole rest, rather than the default?

Nope. I triple checked and there's nothing (visibly) there. As I said, it seems to work if I move the staves to a different system, but they rebuild if I move them back.

I sometimes find I need to reapply "Hide Empty Staves" when a make a change that creates additional systems.

Thanks, but I've reapplied "Hide Empty Staves" about a thousand time now.

1) You mention ‘brackets/groups’.

Take a look at the Group Attributes.

What item is selected in the sub-menu {When Hiding}?

2) If I understand you correctly, you have been hiding staves by using

Staff menu > Hide Empty Staves

- right?

But have you also tried “the other method”, namely the staff style method for hiding staves?

THANK YOU MR. THOMSEN! The culprit seemed to be an issue with the grouping. At some point, I must have messed with the bracket hiding. Thanks!
