After my recent Finale update, I'm finding the lyric feature consistently randomly changing lyrics, inserting echos of other places in the tune.  This should be very simple, as I'm only typing lyrics in directly into the score.  Have I missed something?  I've spend untold hours tying to get it to work.  I'm using Does anyone have any thoughts?

If you think you've found a flaw in a new update, send it in! Use the Submit a Request tab at the top of the page.

Meanwhile, are you using multiple verses? Multiple staves? Multiple layers?

Multiple verses, single layer.  I observe the following:

1. The click assignment (the arrow) is flaky. For example, if the missing word is already in the lyric window, I use the click assignment arrow, by selecting the missing word from the lyric window, then clicking the note where the missing word should sit.  Usually, I need two clicks, one to ID the score window, and a second click to place the word onto the score.  Very often, Finale will insert two words and I need to undo the extra entry.  (I've been very careful to click slowly to avoid double clicking, even changing my mouse click speed, with no help.)   Worse, about 25% of the time, the lyric window will redirect and select the first word in the verse to insert, (or the first and second word if it double enters.)  This can lead to the second problem...,

2. There are times when I end up with a single word on the lyric window linked to two different locations on the score.  When I delete the incorrect duplicate, I loose the word from both the score and the lyric window.  This gives me a word on the score without a reference in the lyric window.  This leads to a third problem...,

3. When I have lyrics in the score without a link to the lyric window, and/or lyrics in the lyric window without mention in the score.

4. I've not found work around for all the problems and have spent all day entering lyrics for a single tune I'm presenting for a Sunday service.  As I write the tunes, I like lyrics writing and rewriting to be easy, so can try things out on the fly.  The constant double entry and misdirection has inspired angry lyrics.  I'm glad the tune is about Job.

I have often found that when editing, it's easiest for me to delete the lyrics with Clear Selected Items rather than overwriting them. Using cloned lyrics has always been a nightmare!

We were promised a rewrite of the entire lyric window paradigm. Still waiting.

Yep. Till then, the old ways still work for me.

I'm learning to work with it and getting faster at catching things before they get out of hand.  Most difficult are when multiple words get assigend to the same note.  It can be lot of work unraveling, but as I said, I'm learning to catch things early by checking every entry and looking for duplicates.  Thanks for the words of comfort.  It made the day long, but the tune is rocking out now and lots of fun.  Peace.
