Looking for help! I've always been able to click and drag to select portions of a note... for example, if I'm looking at a score with multiple lines and each stave has a quarter note on beat one... and I want to make it an eighth note... I've been able to use the selection tool to highlight just the second half of the quarter note, press delete, and turn that quarter note into an eighth note and an eighth rest.

For whatever reason, I'm not able to do that anymore! Is there a setting in v26 that I need to change back? Any ideas?

Using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.2, and Finale v26.2.1.464

I've never done it that way, so I tried it. It worked for me in F26. I selected the second half of the beat, and tapped DELETE. An eighth note/eighth rest was the result.

So, thanks for the tip! But I don't know why it doesn't work for you. What result have you been getting?

That's EXACTLY what I used to be able to do!  I'm not sure why I suddenly am not able to do it... I can only select one beat's worth at a time, or larger.  Nothing smaller.

What you describe, is definitely not “normal Finale behaviour”.

Please specify the steps you've already taken, so that we can rule out things.

Have you, e. g.

- rebooted the computer?

- removed Finale’s Preferences file?

- tested a brand new user account?

I suppose that you have already tried all such steps, right?

Then it is time to contact the folks in Tech Support.
