I have reported these problems before and received acknowledgement that they do indeed exist, but have not received any suggestions on fixes, despite two updates on the software.  Finale V26...latest, on Windows 10.

When inputting notes onto the staff, using the mouse, about 10% of the time, there will be "ghost" notes appear over and next to the note I'm intending to be placed.  This makes it impossible to see what the correct note is.  In order to see it properly, you have to cursor off of the measure.  Then it's fine.  It happens in all staffs...not just percussion, as the Finale rep suggested to me.  He said he would look into it.

Anyone else see this?

Also, when are they going to fix not being able to type certain chords into the score?  (Any chord with a flat in the extension....like Bb7(b9), A7(b5)...etc.)  I have to go through the process of typing Bb:0....and looking the chord up on the chart.  (Sorry but I can't remember them.)

Thanks

What chord suffix library are you using?

My first guess would be that you are using the JazzCord library.

I can reproduce your problem if I use the JazzCord library.

But not with any of the other chord suffix libraries.

Try e. g. the Jazz Text library.

Thank you again, Peter.  You tried to help me last time....a few months back.  I tried changing fonts on the chords, to the Jazz Text and it didn't make any difference.  When I load a blank file, it defaults as Broadway Copyist Text.  I'm looking under "Document, Options, Fonts".....right?  I don't see "Jazz Cord Library" anywhere.

Frederick Brush,

Changing the chord suffix font in

Document Options - Fonts > Chord > Suffix*

will not immediately show any change.

Notice the * symbol.

This * means that all new suffixes will default to the changed font.

On The Other Hand, already existing suffixes are not affected.

This is by design, and what users have requested.

Instead of changing the already existing suffixes one-by-one, load a chord suffix library with the suffixes you need.

To load a library:

File menu > Load Library…

Finale will display a directory dialog box of the folder Libraries.

Go to the sub-folder with Chord Suffixes, and …

The loaded library will be added to the Chord Suffix Selection, at the bottom, below the already existing suffixes.

When you have loaded the new chord suffix library, consider deleting the (old) suffixes you do not need.

As an experiment, try this:

File menu > New > Document Without Libraries

The so called Document Without Libraries is a “hardwired” template inside the Finale application.

You can not customise this “hardwired” template, but you can create a new Document Without Libraries, and customise that document (like e. g. change its Default Music Font).

If you load a library into this “empty” document, you will only get the contents of that library.

Thank you, so much, Peter.  That worked like a charm.  It's not exactly the font that I would like but, now that I kind of know how it works, I can play with it.

As I understand it, Jazz is an old font licensed by MakeMusic but not owned by them. It is what it is and if/when you hit a limitation, there's not much that can be done. Future development will never happen.

Broadway Copyist has more flexibility.
