Hello to all.

(I am currently using Finale on a Lenovo Computer running Windows 10 Home)

I am new to using Finale and am currently using Finale 2007. I have written out a piece, but I forgot to put the first section of the melody in it. I would like to go back and do this now, but I am not sure how to. Does anyone know how to do this?

You say that you need a "complete musical staff", but unless I misunderstand your question, I assume that you want more measures (all staves included) inserted at the very start of the piece.

Select the very first measure.

Edit menu -> Insert Measure STACK : enter a number of measures, they will be created before the first measure.

(you can also use the contextual menu - right click -  to find the same command)

Thank you, Michel. Yes, it wasn't necessary for me to say that I need a "complete musical staff" (meaning both bass and treble clefs; I rarely see a piece of music with only one clef in it), because that's what I will get anyways if I add more measures. I took that that line out of my original post.

And yes, I do want them inserted at the very start of the piece. There is a whole part of the melody that I left out so I need quite a few more measures to be inserted there.

I'll try what you suggested at my earliest convenience and let you know if it works. Thanks again.

Hello Michel,

While your advice wasn't precisely what I needed, it did steer me in the right direction and I was quickly able to figure out how to add more measures at the beginning of a piece.

The way to do it in Finale 2007 turned out to be different than the way you suggested. The way to do it is the following :Click measure icon (6th option in list of icons)>Highlight measure you want to add measures before> Click "Measure" (8th option on the very top) > Click Insert> A pop-up box appears which gives you an option to type in how many measures you want.> Enter number of desired measures and click "OK".  And that's it. :)

Thanks again for your help. :)

I see. I have long forgotten how things were done in Finale 2007. My procedure is the one used in more recent versions of Finale.

Anyway, I'm glad that you found the solution. The common thing is that you have to select a measure to add measures before it. It is now called "Insert measure Stack".

It is still good to know how to go about adding additional measures at the beginning of pieces in the more recent versions of Finale, so thank you for sharing. Yes, I am grateful that I found the solution.

Thanks again and have a wonderful day. :)
