Hi,

I opened a file that was written in 2004 and the result is unreadable. I tried to Update the layout, toggle between views, enter the music anew, ETC.

I still have a version of the file from 2004, if there's any remedy.

Greets,

Benny

Benny Kedem,

That screen shot certainly looks weird.

Can you show us what the layout is supposed to look like, exactly?

I am asking because by looking at your screen shot I can not guess the desired layout.

Try exporting via MusicXML and opening in a new file.

Hi Peter and Mike,

thanks for your help.

Peter- Screen shot attached.

Mike- The attached screen shot is the opened MUS file. When I open this MUS file, I can't save it as an XML- First I have to save it as a MUSX file but the file is already corrupted...

Thanks, Benny

… Peter- Screen shot attached …

Your first screen shot shows {rehearsal marks 124 – 126}.

When I asked “Can you show us what the layout is supposed to look like, exactly?”, I meant the layout for {rehearsal marks 124 – 126}.

But your second screen shot shows {rehearsal marks 120 – 123}.

* Can you show us what the layout for {rehearsal marks 124 – 126} was supposed to look like, exactly?.

Hi Peter,

I am afraid that I can't, as I don't understand what you mean. the layout is supposed to look like the page before {120-122} and is done manually- I choose the amount of bars per system etc.

I believe that the program has a problem to translate this old file (from 2004), therefore It won't let me change this musical Gibberish into a readable music page. When created, the file was not corrupted - I have a print of it and it is OK, but now it seems to be useless.

If I have expressed myself unclearly, I apologize.

What I meant, was that your screen shot of {rehearsal marks 120 – 123} shows what the WRONG (un-desired) layout looks like.

From looking at the WRONG layout I can not guess what the RIGHT (desired) layout should look like.

… I have a print of it and it is OK …

Then attach a photo of the print.

Hi Peter,

Here is a scan of the pages as printed 16 years ago.

The problem is not my desired layout, but the fact that I can't change anything when opening the document.

Perhaps I'd rather send you the original MUS file so you'll be able to try to open it. If yes- I would need a mail address.

Greets and thanks for your patience and efforts.

Benny Kedem,

Thanks for the upload.

A comparison with your first screen shot shows that

- in the “deformated” document the systems are not locked,

- in the “deformated” document the system margins have gone crazy.

You can mail your Finale document to
