Ok, so I got tired of the company saying "You need to upgrade, all those problems are fixed in the upgrade..."

So I went ahead (cause they drop all support on the version before the latest one of course)

Not only does the upgrade not solve many issues, but introduces many more!!:

Let's have some fun! - Can anyone advise of the issues that are not fixed??

1.Keyboard/Midi input doesn’t sound when played, but playback works. Then it decides it does work, then it decided it doesn't. Then….(Not Fixed)

2.When rewinding playback, Score won’t go back to beginning (a KNOWN BUG THAT THE COMPANY Won"t FIX) HOWEVER, Score won't even go back to the beginning when you fast forward it to the end. (not fixed)

3. Scroll doesn't work in playback (Not fixed)

4.The playback chooses to stop at ms 36 everytime. NO I DIDN”T DO ANYTHING) Fixed

5.The software just decided that my expression marks are all tempo marks and so all automatically duplicated at the head of the score.(fixed)

6.Notes continually “stick” - cipher or are placed twice in the score(not fixed)

7. Volume of playback does weird things, sometimes it is loud, sometimes soft, Some instruments are very loud while others are unheard -

having nothing to do with the dynamics of the score.(NOT fixed)

8.Don’t get me started about score merge. ("score mess")

HOW strange - ALL my other software, Sony Soundforge, CD Architect Word, Publisher, Gimp, etc, all work perfectly!!

The company actually charges for this "upgrade"....

(Thanks for this rant)

All of which you could have discovered by trying out the demo.

Not that Finale has done what it should to fix problems, but your comments suggest you have been with the software through several upgrades (whether you have taken advantage of them or not), which would have suggested a cautious approach.

You do not say which version of Finale you upgraded from.

Not all the problems you list are familiar to me:

  1. I actually turned off MIDI Thru so notes would not sound when entered
  2. I have no problems getting the score to return to the start of the file on rewind.
  3. I am not sure what you mean by scroll does not work  in Playback. Mine scrolls automatically, unless you are talking about scrolling vertically.
  4. Playback does not stop at measure 36 in any of my files: check the start and end-measure settings in the playback panel.
  5. You say this is fixed.
  6. MIDI notes do not stick for me, although they did in past version (some versions ago).
  7. I do not use score merge often, but I have had fewer problems with it than with importing scanned music. I expect both to need some clean-up, (and the same is the case in Dorico, by the way).

I hope you feel better after your rant.

>7. Volume of playback does weird things, sometimes it is loud, sometimes soft,<

I've observed this for decades if I start playback anywhere but the beginning. I've never had it happen when I've started playback from the beginning. Not once. Not ever. I don't pay attention to this since around 1998.

Thanks for your comments...
1. I want to hear the notes asci am placing them in the score. Sometimes they sound and sometimes they don't and I cannot fathom why.
2. It's great that you have no problems on rewind, I Do!
3.Ditto
4. Yes I know of the start and end measure settings, the question is: why does the software change these setting by itself without my help??
5.
6. I am glad your midi notes don't stick, mine do constantly. I spend more time correcting this than composing.
BTW. I've been using Finale since the first year is was introduced. I have not seen the consistency of the software inproving. Oh well...

Dear Mike:
Thanks, but I want to start playback at specific measures to work on a spot in the score.

What a coincidence: I've been using Finale since was introduced as well. Admittedly the software could be better than it is. I'm sorry your luck with it has been less favorable than mine.

Hi Gregory, you're very clear on what you want. I get it but am not certain that you do. To be brief, you would like dynamics to be a steady data stream instead of a differential. I don't need to see the source code to know that this would likely be a ground up rewrite. There is no problem to be addressed nor bug to be fixed as far as I can tell.

To me, this is a feature request. I don't work for MM nor do I have access to the code but it would surprise me if I was wrong on this.
