I don't know if this is because of a Windows 10 update, but since installing 26, I get no playback either on MIDI or VST. An exported WAV file is silent. All of my laptop sound stuff is fine that is not Finale. And, of course, when typing in a score by keyboard, while the notes appear in the score, no sound plays.

Try MIDI/Audio > Reassign Playback Sounds

Also realize that Finale's (VST) volume is lower than most, so you may need to turn up your volume.

Also check your Score Manager to see what has been assigned to what and that nothing is muted.

Thanks for the suggestions Adrian, but I've done all these (I first got this program in floppies at a music educator's convention in the late 80's - I've never had this issue).

I had a similar problem after the 26.3.0.512 update - playback was okay but no sound in the .wav export.  Reassign Playback Sounds solved part of it - .wav file had sound that quit halfway through and Finale was hanging (wouldn't let me close the program).  I tried reassigning some instruments to different banks and channels and that seemed to fix everything.

Dennis, those are things I hadn't thought of. And which I will try later today! THANK you . . .

I'm not sure version 26.3.0.xxx is out yet.

Edit:

Apparently it is.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I just heard back from Finale that my question is "solved." Which it is not . . . .

What is your MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup's > Audio Driver set to? I find that DirectSound works best for me; but sometimes, when I upgrade, this setting defaults to ASIO and causes problems.

What did Finale Support suggest before they closed your case (which I think is actually done automatically on a timer by the software--used by many companies' support systems)?

Mine is set to DirectSound.
I checked again . . . it was the community answer that said it was solved. It is still open with no response (CoViD?). . . .

Thanks, Adrian . . .

It is now playing through MIDI  SmartMusic SoftSynth. I'm wondering if Garritan didn't install, didn't install correctly, or installed to the wrong place.

I am having the same issues. The Aria Player does not load. Finale crashes almost everytime I open it as.  As a matter of fact, It has locked up my whole iMac twice.

Is there a way to reinstall the previous version?

Depending which version of Finale you are using, you should be able to reload the package. Realize that the Garritan installation is an add-n to the install of the Finale program itself, so do not quit the installer too soon before making sure you have downloaded the Aria player and the sound files themselves.
