First, I did a search for the subject of this post but could not find any acceptable answers so I would like to know if anyone can provide information or workarounds that I may have missed. 

When I open any file in Finale and then simply close it I am asked if I want to save changes.  I have not made any changes at all - I just select "File Open" then "File Close" and nothing else.  Why does this happen? How can it be fixed?

It can't be fixed. This has been around for years. The bumpf they gave us is that whenever you open a file, Finale runs a check on it (I don't know, for what) and consequently the file has been acted on, and so you have to save your "changes."

It ain’t just Finale. A half dozen of my apps do this, all of them have something to do with audio. It’s been like this for years (decades?). 

 

I’m long past thinking this is a problem and have accepted it as normal behavior.
