It is not clear to me what part of the workflow you are asking about.

Are you entering music - or have you finished entering music, and are trying to audio spot check what you have entered?

To audio spot check, hold down Ctrl + Spacebar, and point with the cursor.

As you move the cursor around, the program will let you hear what you are pointing at.

On Win10, Ctrl-alt-spacebar for one note. Ctrl-spacebar will sound everything on that note's beat. Finale's learning curve can be brutal, but eventually, it will do almost everything you want.

You can hear the note as you enter it. You can playback what you have entered. You cannot just click on an entered note, and hear it, as far as I know. I’m on Mac, so I can’t try Girard’s suggestion.

What are you trying to do, that is so frustrating? Are you more used to another notation program?
