Hello,

I am using Finale 25 on Windows 10.

Finale keeps crashing when I try to play a piece using Human Playback with the message 'Finale encountered an error and will shut down'.

It crashes at 73% while 'processing hairpins'.

This only occurs on a particular file, others work fine.

Without HP playback does not crash.

I am wondering what I should do to fix this.

Thanks a lot!

Export as XML, and import it back in. That seems to fix a lot. You could also try Clear Selected Items > MIDI Data.

Hi Mike,

When importing the XML file back in these two error messages pop up a couple of times.

after the errors, it does playback without crashing, but all VST Instruments are deselected so no sound. furthermore cross staves and other notes aren't imported correctly; to fix them all and to manually select all instruments would take too much time:

Clearing MIDI data does not work either..I have requested tech support at makemusic zendesk but still no reply.

Do you have any other possible solutions?

Thanks.

Finale 25.4 added MusicXML 3.1 functionality. I recommend reading about it in the help files and trying again.

This has been happening to me lately. Exporting to MusicXML and importing does indeed fix the problem. It makes a cosmetic mess of some things --- all of which can be fixed without too much trouble -- but it does mitigate the crash.
