Anyone tell me the difference between Notation and Standard selection in Aria Libraries? MacOS 10.14 on 27" 2015 iMac Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 Aria Player 1.959 Engine v1.967

The keyswitches are located in different octaves. Finale's Human playback works with the keyswitches in the notation version. If you load the standard version, keyswitches won't work.

Thanks Jeff.. so the notation selection of banks and patches are specific to notation programs.. just getting into the keyswitch functionality in Aria (after flying by the seat of my pants 🤡😜 for 4-5 years) I use Sibelius so i assume i would load the notation option banks with that. Thanks for clarifying Jeff.. couldn’t find anything in manual.

I don't know how Sibelius handles keyswitches or which version should be loaded for that to happen. You might want to ask that on a SIbelius forum.

The 'Standard' samples have the keyswitches an octave higher, so that they are closer to the notes, and can be more easily triggered 'live' on a keyboard, even if not 88 keys.

Theoretically, any given instrument's KSes are always going to be outside its playing range, but the Notation set puts them further away, presumably in order to avoid any problems of accidental 'low notes' playing.

If I remember correctly, the notation set was created to have all keyswitches triggered by the same expression.

For example, in the standard set as Wiggy said, the keyswitches are in the octave beneath the lowest notes. That means that the keyswitch for pizz. is in one octave for the violins, another octave for the cello and another octave for the basses. This would require multiple pizz. expressions in Finale.

By creating the notation set, the keyswitches for the string section are all placed in the same lower octave, which enables a single pizz. expression to work for the whole string section.

Except that the Garritan Orchestral Strings use different key switches for the same thing in different instrument types:

Eg. Spiccato is A for Section Violins, G# for Violas, G for Celli, <absent> from Bass and G for Small Violins. It's G for the Solo Strings, except for Basses, where it's D.

I'm of half a mind to alter the sfz files, just to standardize the KSes.
