Color wheel of death when entering lyrics

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2019, OS 10.15.5. Finale version is 26.3.1.643. Soon after I begin to enter lyrics onto a page I get the color wheel of death, which doesn't stop. My only choice is to exit the program. This was happening 5 or 10 minutes into working on lyrics which allowed some forward progress if I frequently saved my work. Now it's happening within seconds. In case my download of Finale was corrupted I uninstalled the Finale program and reinstalled it from a fresh download. It still happens. This is a big time waster and has me at a standstill as I'm trying to complete a project.

How are you entering the lyrics? If you are using Type Into Score, you might try entering the lyrics into the Lyrics window, and using click-assign.

Finale is installed in the default location and the files are saved to a folder on your System drive (if the default location, then yes), right? If not, let's start there.
