Hello ; I'm using Finale to write drums partitions
1) There is a display issue with the reader palette ; to begin reading, I have to click on the pause button, for instance
2) I don't know how to read a specific part of a partition ; each time I click "read", it begins from the start
3) How should I proceed to modify one specific note's duration? For instance, to replace a black with a white
Thx

For new users, doing the tutorials is a good place to start.

What exactly do you mean when you say "partition"?

… What exactly do you mean when you say "partition"? …

If I Recall Correctly, the word “partition” is the french word for “score” - so perhaps Claude Rousseau means “score”?

Click on the Playback options (the speaker symbol near the playback controls) and choose Play from Leftmost Measure. That will let you start the playback partway through the music.

Google Translate (in case your native language is French.

Cliquez sur les options de lecture (le symbole du haut-parleur près des commandes de lecture) et choisissez Lire à partir de la mesure la plus à gauche. Cela vous permettra de démarrer la lecture à mi-chemin de la musique.

Yes, sorry for my english; I meant score
About Tutorials, I didn't find one that suited my needs, which are pretty basics
I've looked at the Playback options ; I will try to find which is the nearest of what I need: simply play the measure I choose

Any idea about points 1 & 3?

Thx for your time

Point 1) sounds like a display issue with your Windows system - possibly the graphics card.

Regarding point 3):

This is a matter of “Finale-speak”:

There is a difference between an “entry” and a “note”.

In this context a “note” refers to a single notehead, while an “entry” can be multiple noteheads sharing the same stem (= a chord).

In Other Words: An “entry” includes everything at a specific position in the rhythm (in that specific Layer/Voice).

By your words “modify one specific note's duration” you probably mean “modify one specific entry's duration”.

This modification can be done with the Speedy Entry Tool:

Position the crosshair on that very entry, and hit the number key for the desired duration (e. g. the number 5 key to get a Quarter, the number 6 key to get a Half - &c.)

Finale-speak is not easy to learn
Even by reading th documentation, as a newby, I don't find the answer to my simple question.
I don't understand why a so expensive software is so badly documented
Additonnaly, not knowing the english musical vocabulary is really tough to explain my issues and to understand the answers. I've understood that I have to use Speedy Entry tool to modify my entries (not understood the difference between a note and an entry), but it's not really intuitive, especially to change the duration without understanding the english duration
Is there a detailed documentation about this tool?
Moreover, is there a documentation dedicated to drums scores?
Thx again for your time

>Finale-speak is not easy to learn<

No one here will deny that. Finale does, however, use technical terms—some common to other notation apps and many that are unique to Finale. Also, remember that it's been around since 1989 and most users are used to the tech-speak jargon. Unless those terms have the same definitions for all of us, it's impossible for one person to describe a problem and equally impossible for another to help.

>I don't understand why a so expensive software is so badly documented<

The last print manual had over 500 pieces of paper with 4 pages on each side—that's over 4,000 pages! Not only did you need a magnifying glass but it was impossible to index properly. I know as I was stupid enough to buy one (2004, maybe?) and recycled it a few years ago. Useless...

I and many others would prefer a searchable .pdf file — but that has not existed in years. The current documentation isn't bad but searching for what you need can be difficult. This is one reason that I and others recommend using the video tutorials when learning Finale.

Yes, I will search in both french forum you have mentionned and in tutorials as well whether I can find answers to my few questions. I have not a lot, so I guess I will end in getting answers
