OS.: Windows 10 Pro, version 20H2

These irregularities are all observed in my work in multi-voice scores. A common situation in that context is that I copy one voice to another, transpose it and make necessary changes to the transposed voice.

  1. If the original voice contains accents (it can also happen with other ornaments), very often when I check the transposed part, the accents have lost the link to the score. This means that I have to manually relink them.
  2. If I change a note in the transposed part to a rest (by selecting a rest in the menu and clicking on the note), the rest retains some of the characteristics of the note it has replaced. For example if I transpose the bar an octave up or down, the rest will follow the notes in the bar up or down. The only way to get the rest back to its proper place is to select it and transpose it.
  3. The triplet button has its share of peculiarities. If I remove part of a bare and try to insert a triplet, the first note somehow ends up outside the triplet. The workaround is to re-enter the last note before the triplet and then enter the triplet. But the triplet button works fine on a totally empty bar!
  4. Intermittently, the current mode (selected by one of the top buttons) will freeze. The only thing that will work is the other top buttons. Selecting another mode and then selecting the frozen mode again will unfreeze it.

I feel bad for your less than optimal situation.

I have never experienced any of these problems (and am not sure I understand what you are describing in #4, not knowing what you mean by "top buttons."

1. Can't help

2. Try applying Music Spacing to that measure, and see if the rest goes where it belongs

3. Can you describe, step-by-step, how you are entering the triplet?

4. Rebooting the computer often solves this sort of problem

Some answers to the answers:

What I call the "Top buttons", Finale calls the "Main Tool Palette"

Triplet problem: Assume that I have copied part of a voice to another. The copy contains one bar with 4 quarter notes. I want to change the last quarter note to a one-eighth triplet. So I select one-eighth and triplet from the simple entry palette and click on the last quarter note. So far so good. Now I enter the first note in the triplet. This appears in the bar as a standard eighth note and the triplet indication moves one step to the right.

The "current mode freeze": No, the computer does not freeze and Finale does not freeze. Selecting another mode from the Main Tool Palette and then re-selecting the first mode again solves the "freeze" problem.

A quick note: Having been in the hardware/software business for about 40 years, I tend to use terms that I find obvious, but may not be obvious to other people 30 years later. So when I use the term "mode" it just means the tools and menu items setup (and even keyboard shortcuts) are defined according to what "button" you have chosen in the Main Tool Palette.

A quick update: I said that triplet entry worked fine on an empty bar. I misremembered - an empty bar has the exact same problem - I must enter a non-triplet note before the triplet entry will work.
