Windows 10 Finale v26.3.1.520

Hello, I enter ritenuto and the music slows down just great. 1 measure later I add an a tempo, but the playback continues at the slower speed. I remove a tempo and insert the actual tempo marking I used at the beginning of the piece. Playback continues at the slower speed. Help...

The culprit might be in the MIDI Data - since the MIDI Data Tempo Changes will override expressions.

 

Try this (on a backup copy):

 

Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…

In the dialog box Clear Selected Items, select only Tempo Changes.
