Hello,

I'm writing on behalf of my elderly father who is having trouble with Finale (v26.3.1.643) on his Mac (Big Sur v11.0.1).

When trying to load Finale, the icon bounces in the dock, but the splash screen doesn't appear for 3 or 4 minutes. I know myself that it should load almost instantly. When it finally loads, it displays the message: "An error occurred while attempting to use coremidi". I can dismiss the message, but can not get finale to make any sound.

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Finale, but the problem remains. Apparently the problem was occurring before my father updated to Big Sur.

I'm not really a mac person myself, and I only have a rudimentary understanding of Finale, so any advice would be much appreciated. Googling for the error message I'm receiving doesn't give me any relevant results.

Extra specs: 3.5GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 32GB 1866MHz DDR3. He's using a Roland RD-2000.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

But what is it? Is this a hackintosh, iMac, other?

26.3.1 is supported over Big Sur. Use Submit a request link at the top of the page.

You can try Resetting the Launch Services. Not only does it reset the default for the MacOS but also resets individually for each app. I don't know if these commands are still correct for Big Sur.

Reset Launch Services

  1. Open Terminal and run these commands:
  2. sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network
  3. killall Dock
  4. sudo mdutil -E /
  5. Restart your Mac

It's a Mac Pro (Late 2013).

I tried your suggestion and reset the launch services but it hasn't fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help anyway. I'll submit a request.

Cheers.

I've been able to fix the problem by reinstalling the RD-2000 drivers. I had to carefully follow the driver installation instructions in relation to setting things up properly with the Audio MIDI setup.app.
