Indeed, I discovered that SmartScore Pro had been updated when I wasn't looking.

SmartScore Pro allows five installations (for one user). If one has not used up all those installations, the upgrade is free.

How did you do that? I paid the upgrade last year so I’m just curious.

Just a couple of days ago, when the reviews came out, I noticed that the name of the software had changed form SS X2 Pro to something new. So I think I opened my program and used the Check For Update link to go to the program site.

Note the note in small print on the left bedside the version 11 update.

I paid it, too. But SmartScore has saved me enough time, that I don’t begrudge the cost.

That notice has been there as long as I remember. Nice if it works with your older license. Worst case, it installed a 30 day eval.

I’ve not done the upgrade on my MBP. Hmmm...

SmartScore just announced that SS64 Guitar Edition will be upgraded to allow recognition of two staves, rather than one. this will allow recognition of both notation and TAB staves.

The upgrade will be free to current owners of SS64 Guitar Edition. The current price of $79 will hold until the upgraded version is released; then, it will go to $99. So if you're considering the purchase, do it now, so you get the old price!

"the app that was to have been included with Finale 25"

I totally forgot about this. *sad memories*

When I looked into this a few years ago, I seemed to remember that Music-to-XML ($99) would suffice and then edit in Finale? Or is there a significant advantage to editing in SmartScore 64?

Don’t waste time or money on Music-to-XML. The full program lets you easily find and correct duration errors, missing or unrecognized elements, and all of the other errors that would have been introduced in any of the direct-to-xml apps.

Buy the full version, and take the time to learn it. You will not regret it!

Agreed. Music-to-XML is the successor to SmartScore Lite with a few differences. Still a black box—scan exports as MusicXML that opens in Finale (or other notation apps now). However, instead of ignoring text, lyrics and expressions, MtMXL throws everything into Finale. With stacked expressions and the like in 26, this is a nightmare waiting to happen as you sort everything out and edit before your new doc is usable.

Music-to-MXL is overpriced @ $99. For Finale users, SmartScore 64 Pro is $199. If you own an older version of SS Pro or SS X2 Pro, your upgrade price is $99.
