I'm on Windows 10 with the new Finale 27 to which I just upgraded. I'm not new to Finale. I estimate I've performed the copyist role on 150-200 compositions, chorale and instrumental. I'm shocked that I cannot make articulations, pedal notation, and smart tools work. I need some crescendos and decrescendos. I click on the Smart Tool for crescendo, double click on the first note and drag to the last note in the crescendo. I get a small box at the start and end of the crescendo with a p in the middle. I stick a pin in that one. I try to add a hold over a chord I choose the tool on the toolbar and click on the note I want held. It gives me a small number under the note instead of offering me the menu I've always gotten before. Whew! So, I'll try addind a pedal notation following the instructions in the tutorial. I get playback settings.

Is anyone else having such strange things happening? How do I fix this? I have a self-imposed deadline on a piece I commissioned for a choir. And I've tried everything I could think of or that I saw as answers in this forum, like restarting the computer, reinstalling the software and restarting the computer.

27 is proving to be full of problems with the SMuFL fonts. If you started this doc in F26, that might explain it. I’ve gone back to 26, myself.

You might also check your mouse settings. We had a case sort of like this just a few weeks ago, and it turned out that the double-click setting was maxed out, faster than he could click. He dialed it back a bit, and it fixed his problems.

Started this piece in Finale 27. I haven't a clue how to change the double click settings. I do have a mouse, but this is a touch screen laptop.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Have you tried using the mouse, instead of the touchscreen?

Hopefully, someone with similar hardware will be able to offer other suggestions.

Have you sent this in to Tech Support?

The Ped. function (Smartshapes or articulations) are not yet implemented in Finale SMuFL. Hairpins are though.

I do use the mouse with Finale. I mentioned the touch screen because that might be why I couldn't find a way to alter the double click settings.
I did get hairpins to work today, but they seem to be a bit hit or miss. I don't understand how they could "break" features that have worked well in previous versions. My first rule of software upgrades was always "do no harm."
Good to know the pedal notation really isn't there in spite of the rather specific documentation on the feature in the help documents. I'll go back to my kludgy use of Smartshapes to fake pedal notation.

Deborah,

The Ped smartshape does work if you use the Legacy Style to set up your document. Finale has not yet been programmed to recognize the Unicode Numbers of the corresponding symbols in SMuFL. (I used the Ped....* notation to check.)

I'm finding that in Finale 27, where the original document was 2014, I'm not getting Ped smart shapes/lines to work well on piano solo pieces. Basically there is no "Ped" function in the playback.
