To the PTB:

Instead of having the Finale 27 recognized problems scattered through the Knowledge Base, might they all be gathered under a single heading? Until they’re fixed, of course.

where should I begin?... here is the latest: just opened this file which looked good yesterday. Yes, indeed, some chords are more important than others

spacing problems after exiting the speed entry tool

oh, and when starting from scratch, it doesn't recognize the symbol "m", it offers to add it, also "m7", and I guess al the other m's. Is it something specifically to the broadway font, or someone decided that it's not safe for us to use "m" for minor chords any more?

What font is being used for the chords? Did you start with F27 handwritten, or with legacy handwritten? (I can’t check it for myself at the moment; my wife is using my computer.)

Have you sent the spacing problems in to tech support?

Finale Broadway, I started a new file from scratch.

No, I didn't send anything to the tech support, I assumed I'm not the only one having these problems. It's not a gig deal, Command + U makes it look right, but still... we didn't have to do that

Finale Broadway is not the same as Broadway Copyist, which is a legacy font. So the mapping is different.

Do you have Automatic Update Layout selected in your Program Options?

yes, as I said, I started a new file from scratch and chose Finale Broadway as document style

Ah... Automatic Update Layout... why can't a new version of a program read the old settings?... thanks!

Mike, another question, since you are so knowledgeable... How come the Finale Maestro style recognizes the "m" symbol for minor chords while the Finale Broadway doesn't, and it offers to add it? 2nd question, is there somewhere I can teach it the chord notation I want to use? For example, I don't want to use parenthesis for extensions, but if I don't, look how ugly it looks, thanks

Having played Broadway charts in pit orchestras off and on since 1969, I'm not remembering the lower case m ever being part of the standard symbol palette. Minus signs - are commonly used instead. There's a reason for this. According to one guide:

Lowercase m …, especially in handwritten scores, can be easily confused for major chords.

Remember that Broadway and other popular jazz fonts are designed to emulate handwritten charts.

I thought of that too, but it doesn't like the minus sign either, it offers to add it as well

got it!... it likes "mi" or "min", but... from the Edit Chord Definition, with Show Advanced, suffix -> edit will show and let one change the assigned suffixes for different types of chords

If you want your own suffixes, create them and save the library. Then, load the library when you start a new doc. Or, load the library into your templates, and it will be there in all new docs.

Oh geez… that's just wrong. Hopefully, the actual Broadway copyists that still use Finale will grind on MM to fix that. I was on my iPad when I wrote the earlier response so hadn't the opportunity to look at it yet.

In another thread, some of the regular beta testers reported that they weren't asked this time. I'm guessing that no Broadway copyists were asked either.

What's next — threads organized by topics and moderated here?

(Brian Wilson singing Wouldn't It Be Nice is going through my head right now.)
