I installed Finale v27 on a new Windows 10 laptop and when opening any of the included .musx files to test audio playback, I get no sound. I have tried a variation of different settings including MIDI thru and VST. Setting the MIDI Out to SmartMusic SoftSynth or the default makes no difference either.

I also installed an older version I had (Finale PrintMusic 2014) and encounter basically the same, with the exception that VST seems to work but sounds robotic. In desperation I installed PrintMusic 2011 and that one works with the default MIDI settings. What's going on that the newer versions don't seem to be working?

You don't mention the ScoreManager, where sounds can defined for the various midi channels and staves.

Since you installed the new version of Finale, have you checked your MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup. I find a new version sometimes resets it, so I try to check that it has been set to DirectSound, which is what works best for me.
