(M1 Mac mini OS Big Sur latest version)

Hi looking for help setting up a default finale jazz font file in F27 (Demo), I have F26 installed, opening my default file I get the blank staff with all the jazz fonts installed with chords etc ready to go which is what I've asked it to do, (brilliant,) I can then use the file to input what I need, be it lead sheets or horn parts using the score manager.  In F27 I have tried to do this (following the manual using Finale Broadway) changed the default font to Finale Jazz but the text blocks are not jazz fonts and even going into plug ins to try and change the fonts it seems very tedious.(am I missing something).  The fact I only use maybe 3 or 4 horns and (very) occasionally rhythm is it worth upgrading to F27. I loved print music on the Mac it did what I needed it t do but had to upgrade, (you know the score), tried a few other programmes but trying to relearn different input methods was very tedious.

Keep F26, let the demo run out. F27 uses a different font paradigm, for unicode-compliant fonts.

Jazz is an old, 3rd party font, and won’t work properly in 27 without jumping through hoops, as you’ve discovered. F26 will run just fine on Big Sur. You can use 27 if you switch to the Finale Jazz font (not Jazz), but you may have to redo your chords.

Scroll down on this page for an overview of F27 fonts:

Thanks Mike,I was trying to use the new Finale jazz font (smufl) and not the old Jazz font but I couldn't get anywhere with the text, the notes were ok as I’d expected but the text blocks were plain ie not handwritten. I had tried to change the font using the plug in but not very successfully.

There is also a Finale Jazz Text font. Were you using that?

Can you post a screen shot showing the text problems?

Kevin, I started with the Handwritten lead sheet template. I left the music font as Broadway Copyist, but I changed all of the others to the Finale Jazz and Finale Jazz Text. It seems to be working. If you like, contact me by email. My e-dress is encoded in my signature.

I liked using the old Jazz and Jazz Text for lyrics etc. and had switched to Broadway Copyist years ago for that style of notation font.

There were a couple of groups I used to arrange for who really liked those.

I just learned that there is a Jazz font document style in 27! From the Setup Wizard, choose an ensemble (or not) and in the Documents Style window choose General > Handwritten (Jazz font.)

Who knew?
