I'm having trouble adding custom sound fonts. I followed the steps below

  1. Choose MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > MIDI/Internal Speaker Setup.
  2. From the Playback to popup menu, choose SmartMusic SoftSynth.
  3. Click OK.

and my soundfonts haven't changed. What am I doing wrong?

My operating systems is windows and I'm using the latest v27 of finale

Check the ScoreManager, see if SmartMusic SoftSynth is selected.

Exactly what do you mean by ‘custom sound fonts’?  

 

I load sound fonts into the Aria Player without problems. This makes me wonder if you’re talking about something else.
