I’m using an iMac (running Big Sur) with Finale version 27. I did a mid-score instrument change, and Finale put in a double bar where the change occurred, which I don’t want. It won’t let me change it to a normal (single) barline no matter what I try. It will let me change it to any other type of barline but not “normal,” and I have “normal’ selected in the dialog box. I’ve tried a hundred different ways to get rid of the double bar, but no luck.

Looks like your score is a transposed score ( NOT displaying in concert pitch) and you changed to an instrument with a different transposition. In that case there will be a double barline, UNLESS you UNcheck in Document Option > Barlines > Double barline preceding key changes. Once unchecked, the double barline will go away (the key change will remain nevertheless, which is, of course, what you want).

If it gives you the other barlines, use Invisible. Then, drop in a barline as an expression. It should be in the Misc. category.

Maybe an instrument change is customarily marked with a double? I don't know.

EDIT: Michael M. is probably on to something!

Thanks, Mike!!!! I just used your first suggestion in the Document Options, and the problem is solved. I was working on what you were suggesting as the second option (a barline as an expression) when your message showed up. Yes, it was a transposition change in a horn part.

Just realized that two different people helped me out with this, Michael and MIKE. Thanks you both!
