I have used Finale for nearly 30 years for composition and arranging.  I am also 81 years old and came to Finale late in life so my overall digital growth and understanding has not mirrored my life-long musical growth.  I have recently replaced my hard drive and am not confident about the set up, and status of my Aria player and my Garritan Voices.  I really need to have some knowledgeable user come to my home, sit beside me and show me how to make all these apps work properly.  I live in Williamstown, Mass.  I use Windows 10 on a PC with Version 27.

Steve, please remove your email address to protect yourself from spambots. I would suggest you break it up, like I have done in my signature.

I would love to help but alas it will not be in person. If you have some specific questions I will give'em a go. I will offer a suggestion, buy NotePerformer3.  It has way better sounds than Garritan.

Steve,

I am going to piggy-back onto what Mike said and strongly advise you to use the Edit routine under the "Comment actions" pull-down to modify or remove your e-mail address from your first post. Not only do you make yourself open to spam, you could be open to a lot worse. Consider...

The sorts of people who scan for e-mails (and spammers are not necessarily the worst) now have three bits of information on you...

  • Your name
  • Your e-mail
  • Your association with Finale.

With that info, they could spoof a message from Finale about your account to try to trick you into giving them more of your personal information. Supposedly very intelligent people have been conned this way to let bad actors into major corporate networks. Just saying. We do not want that to happen to anyone on the Finale Forums (or anyone, period.)

I would also add that you really don’t want to solicit anyone you don’t know to come to your place in MA. And there’s also the pandemic. You’re 81. Very unwise, medically speaking, to have anyone in your house whom you don’t know to have been vaccinated, etc.

That aside, I empathize. I do second the notion of noteperformer. I started playing with it three days ago and while I had some real challenges getting it to work the way I needed it to (and there are still some issues; does it not work with Finale regarding col legno in strings?) I bought it and it’s made a real difference in the quality of many of my audio recordings. Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 is pretty good but just the quality of the string harmonics alone in NotePerformer sold me.
